Well if you look at the v8's, it takes them between 8 to 10 months full time with 20 or so employees input.
Phil has probably taken 2 years part time with probably 3-4 people. good really for part timers!  ( no insult intended Phil)
Our issue at the moment is that we have put in a lot of time into rebuilding and developing the Alfa.
( like many others in the pre season, plus to build one and to prep another is a bit difficult
seeing that it is all done in-house)
Plus also working full time and having a young family.
The other issues are
 - that we have been looking at how we can improve the Alfas design and look at putting those ideas into the new car.
-look at being able to get ahold of the new car body panels ( we all haven't got the patience and expertise to copy a model car like Bailys  crew which is amazing).
- the design work that happens on paper or on computer is probably the most important part to really set the heart of the beast in the right direction. It's easy to change or press delete then to cut apart and re- weld or scrap like others have done. In the past.
-We are always finding new speed out of the Alfa
- looking at a lot of designs,  whether want to carry them from the Alfa
- all parts will be new so no carry on's from the Alfa.

That's  probably enough for the moment, just got home from setting up the Alfa so it can be loaded to head across the open paddock from Perth to Adelaide.

It's going to be a close championship this year!

All valid points Tony, its scary to think that the alfa could go quicker.... I agree in regards to your comments regarding phils build, top effort from a relatively small team

This is a question for Phil Crompton and Phil Donnelly but I would like to hear from anyone with a valid view point. Do you think there is a market in sports sedans for a 'kit' car? Probably only suit state level but I was thinking of something that used a single road car donor that could get someone on the track quickly and cheaply. My thoughts were to start with as much of the donor car as possible but lighter suspension parts could be used as and when money is available. I have a design in mind that is simple, modular and would suit various wheelbases.

Your thoughts?

Donor kit car suggestions will probably get you booted from this site! Especially since it has been mentioned and then quickly murdered by the two people you have directed the question at...

A similar but different idea done well could probably yeild in shorter "idea to track" times. Standard chassis and suspension designs available to competitors maybe a route into this idea of aiding people into sports sedans?

Honelstly i dont think so. SS is about interpretation of rules and the resulting creativity. This is what makes SS unique and also time hungry.

Eh?

I'm assuming Phil Donnelly is me (Chris) , so I'm assuming I'm one of the people that have "murdered" someones idea about a donor kit car previously? More than happy for you to find any post of mine and pull it apart, but not once have I ever discouraged blokes with ideas on car builds with the view to getting more cars onto a grid.

And when has anyone been "booted" from this site?

Agreed, but more than happy to hear ideas from guys who want to build cars (more quickly) with the view to actually racing them in a Sports Sedan race one day!

Yes my idea is about getting people into sports sedans, quickly and cheaply.

There are a lot of people that like the category, are handy on the spanners but would not know where to start when it comes to designing a car.

Once the car is on the track the owner can learn to drive, have some affordable fun, then when they have more skill and money they can modify the car.

It would not suit (or be fast enough) for national level but you have to start somewhere. From my experience budget is important to a lot of people.
