So with Lowndesy and Whincup and team triple 8 heading to the holden stables for next year. 20 holdens vs 10 fords.... i pose the question could this be the year for sports sedans to give the V8 super cars a run for their money? Variety of cars and engines, times quicker than the super cars it can only be a win win for the category?
On a side note it will be interesting to see if triple 8 have what it takes engineering wise to come out on top at the start of next year. Im thinking they've got the goods no end.

Funny you should mention this, i said exactly the same thing to a work mate today. I cant understand why sports sedans arent as popular if not more popular then the super taxis. Better variety coupled with anything goes mentality i would think would appeal to most people in this country... I know i dont wanna watch two cars that a basically the same underneath run around the track, gets a bit boring ....

with a 9 million budget im sure 888 will be fine, good on them for sticking it to ford.
i dunno, touring cars were the best in the 80's when things were different. you get some good racing in the v8's but yeh you could have way better. bring on a v8 vs a sierra vs a bmw vs a gtr anyday. oh wait... thats sports sedans!
without manufacturer backing and a large promotional value you cant keep up. 2002turbo jus came back from austria. hill climbs get 20,000 people or somthing and everyone lines the hill and claps and cheers the cars as they come down the hill after the event..... and its a club event..... jus move the euro's over here.

As much as I would love Sport Sedans to get more profile without a PR machine like the V8s have the chances of it happening are pretty slim.
It might sound bit opinionated but I personally think generally a lot of Aussie race fans are a bit fickle. They only really attend/follow the V8 circus with the big name drivers and don't give a crap about much else. Indy, F1 GP, and some Historics like the Muscle Car masters are of course an exception. The only non V8 Supercar events that I ever saw well attended were the truck races at Oran Park back in the 1990s.
I don't know why its like this with our scene here in Australia. I was in Austria earlier this year and went to a Hillclimb racing event, over 20 000 people turned up to watch and Austria has a population of only 7-8 million! Sure there were some impressive cars running but its not like the drivers were overly well known outside of their scene.

I agree with all the above, 888 are just a far superior outfit that has their s#@t together. Good Drivers, good team.
2010 - Formula Holden?
Mind you, I used to be a diehard fan of V8 Supercars, but thesedays I really couldn't give a stuff if I miss the races on TV. I haven't seen one live since about 2002 (and I was there only because it was an ASSC Round and I was competing.....) . It's a procession, artificially influenced by Compulsory Pitstops. Boring as bats#@t.
Just my opinion though, flame away! :)
The sad thing to my mind is the fact that V8 Supercar is regarded as the "pinnacle" of our sport in Australia...........................
Ask Steven Voight about what he reckons about V8 Supercars in comparison to a Sports Sedan. Steve did an awesome job in the Thexton car at Bathurst back in 03/04?, but I think two words in the sentence were "doughy" and "slow"..........................

I always look forward to the V8 TV coverage, it's nice to switch it on and catch up on some much needed sleep !
Years ago when 7 had the touring car rights they aired the Sports Sedans on the same round at lakeside with Make Raymond commentating. The crowd opinion and excitement watching these animals get man handled around, let alone the noise, sideways action and "wow factor" far out weighed the touring car publicity hence they weren't shown again after that.
Being an Ex Shell employee it was easy enough to get my hands on a couple of corporate tickets but we only went to the rounds that were supported by the Sports Sedans. In my eyes they were the draw card !!
As far as a series that prices themselves well out of the market, is boring and the only way you could get a steer is to have what DJ used to call a PHD in motorsport (parents have dough) and teams switching between breeds........ who really cares !

You are all missing the point ! V8 are Sport sedans
Havn't any of you seen how they build a new V8 ?
If you go to 888 and watch the full spaced frame car with the panels riveted on and the shorten body and rear doors you would see somthing similar to a sports sedan .
If you were thinking they are based on production cars you would be very sad ! ;)

I don't think any of us believe they are based on Production Cars, but the un-initiated masses out there probably think they are! We all know that V8's are effectively just "heavy Sports Sedans - (1360 odd kg's) with far too much money being spent on them to generate the lap times they do........ :(
They are all about "Entertainment" supposedly, but I struggle with the fact that each year they have to keep "reinventing themselves" by changing rules, pointscore structures, adding bulls#@t pitstops etc. to try and generate some passing. I remember one race where Ingall sat behind Tander for 60 laps at QR...... couldn't pass him, pitted on the same lap and came out behind him. Guess where he finished - behind Tander! BAAAAAA  Turn off TV, walk away.........
Horses for courses though I guess. The majority of punters out there appear to like the V8's! It's up to us all to try and make Sports Sedans as popular as them!! ;)

Your right Geoff, just an overpriced glorified sports sedan. EL the only entertainment they provide would be the xxxx girls strutting their stuff !!
Being popular without the corporate backing is a difficult one. Atleast the sports sedans offer the insane factor. The first time i seen one in the flesh i had to have one. We bought an LJ with a mid mounted chev ...... man talk about learning to run before you could crawl !!
