Hi guys, I'm new around here, and I've got an idea I'd like to run past you...

I've always been a fan of the old school group C race cars of years gone by, looking at the current historic category, unless you have an original race car (for which prices have gone through the roof) then there is no way to get involved.

There is considerable interest in these cars (look at the Muscle Car Masters) and as there is no current plans to allow replicas to run in the current class I thought why not draft up some rules to run a replica category? The only place where we could run would be with you guys in Sports Sedans, but I figure if we have enough people running these cars we could run our own race within the race. I figure it would be good for your class as it would bolster your fields, and it gives us somewhere to run.

Just looking for feedback from everyone here to see if it would be okay?

Here is a copy of the rules I have come up with, they are a combination of Group N and IPRA rules. I thought rather than running to the exact rules of the day, allowing freedoms in certain areas, ie brakes, gearbox and diff, plus limited engine mods will make the cars being built a little less fragile and better "race cars". But the cars must be replicas of original race cars, that must look externally as close as possible to the original car.

As there are lots of people on this site with considerable racing experience, any input positive or otherwise would be much appreciated.

cheers,

Sam

I honestly dont think sports sedans need another category to help bolster fields as i think the category is on the way up. You may find these replica group c's may eventually turn into a sports sedan any way which would ruin the idea..

mate it may work with the state series. obviously it would be silly to run with the nationals as it wouldnt be cost effective for you guys and you would be lapped in a few laps but definately at state level give it a go. there would be plenty of sports sedans at that level that you wouldnt be far off time wise and they always need a few extra numbers.
contact chris jackson (i didnt see if you are in sydney or what) or the vic association etc

Thanks for your comments guys,

Yeah was thinking of keeping at a state level, I'm actually in SA and currently we dont have any (or many) sports sedans running at the local meetings.

Anyone got any contacts for the SA sports sedan association?

cheers,

Sam

Sam how r u. After many years of searching as to why South Australia never had a Sports Sedan Association i can tell you that myself along with another person have sourced every Sports Sedan that was South Australian based going back to the mid 70's. We have found a staggering 35 cars that are sitting in sheds some have not raced since the early 80's. we are going to register the association and bring some of these cars back out even if just for display purposes. You can contact me on email sales@htcheat.com.au We have a log of every car, owner the original owners and are in the process of contacting people to get them together. You will be suprised as to some of the names that were very popular back then.

Anyone from S.A who would be interested in getting this association off the ground i would appreciate the help..we need a treasurer chairman etc. so put your hand up we could use the help.
