larry bars

Postby 2JZSS » Tue Apr 20, 2010 9:32 pm

Hey guys,

If this question has already been asked feel free to let me know :)

Whats the deal with Larry bars? Some cars appear to run them yet others don't... I'm assuming that at some point the rules allowed the implementation of such bars but now they don't?

I'm going to make a huge assumption and guess that they aren't allowed because more cars would run them if they had the opportunity. ( I'm assuming all categories bar v8super cars). Its kind of weird that only v8super cars run them? Because there is no doubt that they would improve safety. Not only from windshield impacts but also from a chassis engineering stand point. A bar fitted across the windscreen increases the torsional rigidity of a chassis immensely.

If they aren't allowed is there a valid reason as to why they aren't? (CAMS??)

Hopefully i haven't opened up a can of worms!

Cheers

I think you are correct that they are not allowed in Sport Sedans. If i remember correctly one prominenet national level car had one some years back but the owner was told to cut it out of the chassis. I think the V8s have an exemption for some reason.

Question for others better informed then me but wasn't there an issue with FIA approval for the "larry bar"???
