What type of 6 litre chev, a ls2 alloy engine or the old school iron block alloy head sb2.2 or 18 degree engine?

Depending on the block and heads the weight is between 460 and 485 pounds. This includes all fixtures less carb and exhaust.

so around 210-220kgs, thankyou mopar358! in other words it wouldnt be too difficult to get a certain saab down to 975kgs witha 4 cylinder in it. oh i can hear the cries of murder!

The weight saving will be considerable and by using a stroked sr20 or 4g63 turboed to 2 bar you will have similar power less torque and less service interval. The R5P7 Dodge in the beforementioned Saab is an incredibly robust and powerful engine. The cost to maintain this engine will be a pittance in comparison to the turbo engine. Logic dictates that 2.4 litre engine copping 30psi boost will go like a dog shot up the arse but will require lots of fettling to be as reliable as an ex Nascar donk designed to turn 8200 to 9200 revs for 500 miles. I love boosted engines but how anyone can look past a Dodge R5P7 for bang for the buck is beyond me.

you cant be over 2000cc to be kept in the 975 kilo weight bracket tho. so a 2.3 etc is no good. Although i would never go near an sr20! realistically you need close to 700bhp out of a 4 cyl to be really really competitive and i can think of quite a few euro engines that can do this comfortably without using a stupid size turbo. I cant see how the dodge would be any cheaper to maintain than the 'right' turbo engine ie no sr20's! But then again im talking crap because i have never run a dodge engine before! What do one of these engines cost? 30k? Would anyone be interested in buying it if i bought the saab?

You could buy a fresh Dodge from Ernie Elliott Dawsonville Georgia for under 20k These make over 800bhp and if optimized to E 85 have great torque curves. What euro engine do you think will make 700 plus with good throttle response. The engine management needed to Run this engine would be over 8 k with pumps and surge tanks etc vs an 830 Cfm Braswell and a mechanical fuel pump and a locked distributor, all of which come with the engine along with a five stage dry sumpoil pump.
