It is because of the common plenum feeding all 8 whereas with individual runners you only get air via that one runner

must come back to bad design, as most higly developed 4's etc make better hp with the individuals. so do all the proper race engine v8's (i.e judd engines, f1 engines etc)

Incorrect.....they may make more usable HP or torque but not as much peak HP.

Most small engines only had little carbs anyway. As for a F1 engine...........stick a huge holley on it and dyno it up and we may be surprised.

Nascars are getting 800 HP on a single 4 barrell carb....nice pieces of carby work mind you but they are still a carb.

Me, just cant bring myself to taking off the lovely Kinsler manifold and chucking away those lovely carbon fibre ram tubes and airbox. Rather keep it for pose value.
