Historic Sports Sedans

I can see this getting shot down in flames but here goes any way...

Considering there are so many famous old Sports Sedans that have ended up on th scrap heap what are the thoughts of building "true Replicas" and having them log booked as say Group Ub...??
They would have to be "as per the specification" of the day though...

This way we would see cars like Tommo's old Volkswagon, Gricey's Corvair etc...

It would be nice to think that we could get a list of all the old cars and get replicas built and have them compete as Historic cars...

Would duplicate "true replicas" be allowed?

Now I think about it probably not...
The roll over protection would not be allowed...

Like trying to build a replica F5000, I couldnt see CAMS allowing another 600hp coffin to be put back into society...?

I can remember sitting in it as a kid but never paid much attention... apparently the McCormick Charger had one main hoop and "NO" roll cage going forwards!! Couldnt see cams allowing that...

I think it could be a good idea TopGear, but if someone's going to go to the trouble to build a car from scratch, I reckon we should be encouraging them to build a new one..
While it would be awesome to see some of the old bangers, and creating an Historic class for Sports Sedans seemed to be a good idea, after being involved with trying to get one passed for it's historic log book, it's all a bit too hard.
After all, who can honestly say exactly what their Sports sedan was built like even 2 years ago, let alone 30 years ago? Even the Gourlay Audi has rarely shown up at the track the same as the meeting before, and that's still a new car.
Still i'd love to see the Corvair and the VW racing again.

The Biante cars are nearly 70's Sports Sedans anyway. I agree with loser, we need more modern cars being built, but maybe we could attract the Biante cars into the field?

Would be hard to get off the ground I think, it would more then likely also piss off the people with logged historic cars too. I read in AMC that Thommo actually destroyed the shell of the VW because he didn't want someone trying to make a dodgy replica of it.

I would encourage people to build new cars with shapes from any era. Some older shells can still look really good provided the bodywork is done properly.

"Some older shells can still look really good provided the bodywork is done properly. "

This is why the original rule rewrite a few years ago was to make us "older" cars look more racey with allowing side skirts, diffusers and other cosmetic upgrades only.
Somewhere along the way the translation seemed to have got confused

Don't worry Toranaracer, everyone knows that Torana's are still the best looking race cars around...
