Holden Gemini Sports Sedans

Holden Gemini Sports Sedans.... I thought there was only a handful of them but going through my files there could be as many as 20.
There has been a couple of mentions on other forums of late about the various cars so time for us to have a thread on here.

Obviously the most known car is the Stephen Craig Gemini which was originally built for Peter Brock and has an extensive race history.
Mark Smith appears to have owned his car for at least 30 years and Peter Desisto's has had his car for quite a while too with it recently up for sale.

I am sure some of the below are on Group C race cars and only a handful may be space frame.

So who knows which is which??. (Dates are just the minimum from what I could determine).

1) Eric Jones ACT (1979 - 1981) Rowan Harmon VIC (1981-1982) Rotary powered in 1982, John Chambers VIC (1983), Rowan Harman VIC (1984), Robin Doherty VIC (1986). John Varnham VIC (1986), Grant Munday VIC (1987) Darren Hossack ??, Stephen Craig VIC (1998 - 2011)

Off memory this was how it looked when Darren raced it.

2) Mark Smith NSW (1983-2011)

3) Kerry Cox QLD (1980-1983)

4) Peter Desisto NSW (1999-2011)

5) Trevor Hodge NSW (1979-1982)

6) Ian Woodward / Kaye Woodward QLD (2002), Anthony Cox QLD (2009-2010 )
Are these one and the same or is the Woodward car now owned by Croston??

7) Ray Mead TAS (1983) , Leon Burdon (1980 - 1983) TAS,

8) Stewart Salter TAS (1983)

9) Charlie Senese VIC (1984-1985)

10) Peter Mitchell QLD (1984-1987)

11) Tom Rabold NSW (1980-1981)

12) Barry Caine WA (1985-1986)

13) Colin Prestgear 1982 (Calder)

14) Jeff Davidson VIC (1984-1987)

15) Kevin Roberts VIC (2002-2005)

16) Damian Croston VIC (2009-2010)

17) David Waldon QLD (1998)

18) John Woodward VIC (1984)

19) Perry Spiridis VIC (1985)

20) Lesly Rose NSW (1986)

21) Richard Golding NSW (1986)

22) Richard Wright NSW (1986)

23) Kimon Papageorge VIC (2000)

24) Fred Menhere VIC (2002) U2L

25) Frank Marchese VIC (2002) U2L

26) RON THOMPSON VIC (2002) U2L

27) Mark Tarrant (2000) NSW

28) David Seldon (1980) NSW Ex CDT Group C

Can anyone identify these?

The yellow number 34 belonged to Tiger Rees and was recently sold to someone in Sydney? Fred Menhere still has his and runs it at sprint days. There are a couple running in Vic in under 2 litre SS but not sure of their origins? And Craigy's is still going strong, though the Needham gearbox finally gave up at Sandown this year. Been in there a long time though.

Russell Kramer built 2 Gemini sports sedans - 1 for Ian Woodward and the other for Tony Cox. The Woodward car is now owned by a reltive of Phast Phil I believe.

Damien Croston built his car himself.

The David Waldon car is apparently an old Group C car. I know a few people very keen on it's where abouts.

The Ray Mead , ex Leon Burdon car is still owned by Ray Mead. He will not sell it which is sad as it is a car with lots of history. It is in as raced condition except no Doug Nash 5 speed. Ray has a number of historic 6 cylinder sport sedans, but doesn't want to sell anything. Rumour has it that he's got a number of Irving c heads and other period wheels etc.

Yes Mopar that is true, last i heard he had approx 5-7 cars, and the bits that you had mentioned as well. The Stuart Salter car was rebuilt, and ready to race, not sure if he has sold it or not, been quite a while since i have heard anything about that car.

What running gear does the Mark Smith Gemini run. It's a very tough looking bit of gear. I think he used to work for tropic coast racing in Nascar in the early 90s.

i think you might have the wrong mark smith, It runs an sr20 turbo engine, i think it still has the getrag box in it. Its extremely light, Has been around for a million years in nsw. Hes a real nice guy, crashed it at the last state round at eastern creek but its not too bad apparently.
Best ive seen him do was a 39 at the creek, but apparently its been quicker.

How does the wheelbase compare to a Alfetta or a Capri ? I'm thinking with a ls series engine and a NASCAR box it would be fast and cheap. Where the Russel Kramer cars live or independent in the Rear end?
