National round canceling. I dont think that will happen. This round seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. From what I can see it will only get better. The 50k plate will be huge, are the national cars running with the state?

Entry list for Wakefield Park

Postby ssedan14 » Tue Mar 31, 2009 8:18 pm

Wakefield Park is 100% going ahead. We now have 9 entries as follows: Hossack, Ricciardello, Bailey, Banks, Butler, Young, Macready, Jackson & McGuiness. I believe with the enquiries i have had by the time Wakefield weekend arrives we will have a minimum of 12 entries.

To answer a fair bit of criticism about why we are are running at Wakefield. Here are the two reasons 1. It was requested by our major sponsor Kerrick and a prerequisite of there sponsorship and 2. It was also endorsed by a meeting of the National competitors at the final Sandown round last year...Yes if all of the state calendars where available at the time a different decision may have been made....but the reality is they where not!

The same questions will know doubt be asked of why we are running at Mallala next round. The reasons are the same as above with the addition of the incentive of prize money for the Clem Smith cup.

The 50k plate will be contested by both state and national competitors as will the Oran Park state round in October. Both meeting should have great fields and great racing!

Interesting that the rounds that will have the greatest support and the largest fields are both state based events. This is the exact formula that Dean Randle and myself put forward and was voted against!

Happy to answer any of your questions either on the forum or at Wakefield. I will be up there helping John Gourlay and Darren with the Audi

12 cars is still an increase over most rounds last year. In all category's of motorsport this year, there is a struggle for people to get there cars to the first round. You don't need to put your hands on your head and freak out about the future of sports sedans. Entry's will get better and better throughout the year, with new cars coming out and old cars being completed after rebuilds, it will be fine.

BTW im in favor of running the national series within the state rounds next year.

The state of the financial world was always going to be a factor in the 2009 series. Hell the Carrera cup has been cancelled altogether this year and it was considered to be the number 2 show in the country.

My sponsorship $$$ have been put on hold due to the financial industry having to pull in the belt a few notch's.

Nobody feels great about spending up to $20K for a round of racing when the sponsorship is not there and they are tearing up money in investments, so the normal reaction is to give it a miss for awhile.

I will be using the Qld state round for a practice run and to test some new suspension bits. It is a lot smaller outlay to race at home as the logistics on away National rounds generally cost as much or more as it costs to run the car. Plus we will be using old National round tyres.

Will do the Oran Park nationals round all being well as the scene is improving.

I don't think we need to worry either, there are plenty of new cars that will be coming out to play later this year.

I suspect the Oran Park Nationals Round in late August will be oversubscribed!!! Same goes for the Island Magic meeting at Phillip Island!! There is another conflicting State Round in Queensland on the same date as the Nationals Round at Oran Park on August 29th/30th. As a group, we have pretty much told the promoter of this event in Queensland that there will be no quick State Level Sports Sedans entering as we would all be competing at the Oran Park meeting instead.

I personally have an issue with the Nationals being run at State based events due to the limitation on available track time (we get pretty good value at a Shannons Round by comparison, we're well and truly spoilt). But, if that's what everyone wants and it is a more economical proposition to do it that way in future, then count us in!

I don't care where we run, just as long as we are able to better co-ordinate the State and National calendars in the future. There are plenty of guys with vested interests in their State Series such as myself, Chris Jackson, Damian Johnson etc. I guess I'm just disappointed that we can't be in two places at the same time!! I'm convinced that if we can achieve this (better co-ordination of calendars), fields of 20+ cars per round are not out of the question.

For those competitors that aren't aware, there is a perfectly good CAMS Licenced race circuit at Morgan Park, Warwick that we have been competing at at State Championship events since 2002. V8 Supercars have tested there and Bob McLoughlin holds the lap record on the current track at a 62.9. As far as I'm concerned, the place could host a Nationals Round as it is right now, but it is being extended from it's already challenging 2.1km layout to 3.1kms with the addition of some fast sweepers.

Let's get the National Sports Sedans back up to Queensland... Bring on a round at Morgan Park in 2010!!!!!!

Anyway, onwards and upwards, we're a good bunch of blokes, we race awesome cars that make V8 Supercars look pedestrian, here's to a year of growth for our category in 2009!

Im not too worried about the slow start to the season it always happens. its just with the talk of new cars and drivers you are hopeing for a big start to the year....If we manage to get 12 or so cars on the track how about they invite the shannons touring cars to grid up as well. they no doubt wont have many more than the s/s grid so with them added you would at least see a 20+ grid at wakefield. they did it last year why not again?????
