Ill be sure to put photos up as it comes along.

Hopefully it does bring some interest to your category, I've been around a few state sport sedans since I was a kid and always wanted to build one from the ground up so here we go!
There is alot of very quick GTR's doing the rounds these days but very few are built to race. They tend to do time attack's and club level sprinting.

The current engine in the GTR is still a 2.6 but uses between 2 and 2.2 bar to make the grunt. It will spin happily to 10,400Rpm all day long and makes decent power from 4800Rpm onwards
Its got a nasty appetite for front crownwheel and pinion gears, drive shafts, gearboxes and anything else that can break

I've got a H6S sequential, it was bought 2nd hand so ill get it serviced before using it.
And the diff housing is an R200 from a normal nissan, but we use a custom made spool that makes life easy to change crown wheel/pinions. Im trying to keep alot of parts common between the two cars so I dont need to keep multiple sets of diff gears in all the ratios I use etc.

Last front diff effort in the GTR

Long story but

Originally came out of an R33 GTS-t which a friend of mine imported and returned to standard. I bought it before the car even landed. He told me the car coming in was a GTR but when it arrived I found it was a RWD GTS-t. I fitted it up to my old Grey GTR with the mated clutch and used it for a day or two as a RWD. Then it got removed after I bought an AWD dog box for the GTR. I thought one day id find/buy an AWD casing for it. It never happened so now it will be used again.

I do have heaps of questions about building these things but here is one im toying with atm.

My original intention was to retain the factory sill panels and pillars then build the space frame into them. I thought this way would be much easier than starting from scratch.
However what is the usual method of doing it??
My thoughts were that the skyline pillars and sills are very light anyway and the extra trouble of moulding them and so forth may not be worth it.
Im guessing you build a space frame based on the internal dimensions of the original shell and then mould the shell to build the new body over the space frame??

May seen like a stupid question. The actual fabrication of it is simple to me but the method is something I want to get right.

First up good to see another new interesting car being built!

My original intention was to retain the factory sill panels and pillars then build the space frame into them. I thought this way would be much easier than starting from scratch. However what is the usual method of doing it??

I take it you mean you will be using these factory parts as an outline on where to run the tubes for the chassis?

My thoughts were that the skyline pillars and sills are very light anyway and the extra trouble of moulding them and so forth may not be worth it.

The allowance of fiberglass or composite pillars and roofs havs been a fairly recent rule change so you will find that a lot of cars still have these parts in the orginal factory sheetmetal.

Im guessing you build a space frame based on the internal dimensions of the original shell and then mould the shell to build the new body over the space frame??

Yeah I would say a lot of cars use the original shell as an overall outline for the chassis i.e where to run the bars that run from under the A pillars and join the main hoop at or around the location of the B pillar. Of course the dimensions of the main section of the shell i.e pillars, window frames, door frames, roof dimensions etc all have to be standard spec,

Yeah thats pretty much how I was intending to do it. Use the original body as a template and build from there.
