Hey guys,

Just wondering what rear brake combinations everyone is running or is going to run. Stuff like how many pot calipers and vented or solid discs etc.



... Also does anyone else think a "Technical" subforum needs to be created for this sort of post and car builds? Personally i think so.

That's not a bad idea with regard to a Technical Sub Forum.

I think the theory generally is more braking to the front, ie, large 4 Pot, or 6 Pot on the front on at least a 330mm rotor if you are running 16 inch wheels.

Front and Rear are ventilated discs.

On our Falcon, we run a smaller rear rotor, with 4 Pot Calipers. Our Calipers are Hurst Airheart (pretty old), run on a Group C Touring Car waaayyyyyy back in the day... The car stops very well though, the trick with the older calipers is just to keep them maintained with new seals at least once a season.

I think we run a 1 inch Front Master Cylinder and 0.7 Rear Master Cylinder. I'd have to take a look at our Pedal Ratio as well, but I'm pretty sure most blokes would run a similar setup.

I give the pedal a "security pump" just out of habit when you're coming screwing down the straight into a corner, just to make sure something is there...... :thinking:

I would assume most people are running 330x32mm fronts and 312x32 rears. But the limiting factor
is the amount of wheel clearance you can get with 16s

I am old school...still talk in inches
14 inch fronts with 6 piston brembo mono blocks and 13 inch rear with 4 pot AP closed back (old historic caliper but works great as they keep some heat in the rear.

Vented rotors all around, 1.25 inch thick I think.

Not sure of the masters, same ones that were on the car when I bought it.

Phil that would be a very tight fit on the front, about as tight as it gets. Do you get much damage with stones in there.

Just a thought, are you running 17s on the front?

While im at it i may as well ask what rim size every body uses and what/where does everyone get their tyres from? Brakes and tyres pretty much go hand in hand.

Hey 2JZSS, on the REAR of little Datto, we're running R32 Skyline 4 piston front calipers with standard solid Falcon dics....we will upgrade to BMW E36 ventilated saucers when Kevin does his next hand out thing.
I'm more than happy with how it pulls up...that said, theres not a lot of weight.

PS we have 16x10 wheels

Interesting Phill, are you running a supercar type tyre? if so does it take its time to heat up compared to
the sports sedan type tyres?

No, it is a SS12, same compound as everyone else in SS but a 300/640/17 size.
You may be surprised to know that half the SS National field is running the same tyre on 17 inch rims. I pioneered them in the late 1990's using a supercar tyre and then a porsche cup tyre and then Dunlop did a SS12 for me as they thought is was the way of the future. Baily, Hossack, Ricciardello and some others all use 17 inch fronts, you hardly notice the size difference on the car do you?
