NSW SS in trouble??

I read NSW SS may have to merge with another class if numbers don't pick up? Is this true?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve state level SS to prevent this? Vic seems to have strong SS fields.

I find u2L IPRA the strongest class in NSW, maybe we could have Vic style u2L SS catergories and promote the new NA3500 class (should just u3500 so it can have 2L turbo too though).

I know THIS suggestion will upset alot of the 6L guys, but how about taking some tyre width off the max allowed to bring them back to the rest of the field? Maybe a 11in tyre only (like porsche cup) would make SS more reachable (affordable) for more competitors? Maybe only apply the 11in tyre for state and let the national guys get there 14's

I was speakin to Andrew McKellar (Toymax) who is a big knob with the nsw sports sedan commitee and he mentioned that the problem was not enough cars turn up to meetings but if they were to increase there wouldnt be such a problem

So is there any plans to help get the numbers up? I know this is a problem for most catergories, but SS has a better chance of creating more interest due to its practically open rule book (probably formula libre is the only more open class). I for one would like to see some more advanced rule changes (ie: the tyre issue, allowing 2L turbo in u3500 and dumping the multi-valve penalty), but I am only one voice. Something needs to change a little to get a little interest. The most popular engine to "hotrod" these days is the sr20 turbo, compared to the small block V8 when the class first took off. Why don't the rule makers consider modern trends.

I could keep going on and on about it, but I think it wouldn't matter, unless others did too...

Entry fees and cost are what is killing motor sport in Australia.

The cars are still around, just most family guys are finding it harder to justify the fees being charged let alone the running cost.

My question is what is anybody doing about it?

I feel the two biggest costs are engines and tyres. They constantly eat money. So I was wondering if anybody else would think it would be a good idea to cut down the tyre size to make tyres cheaper. This would also take away the advantage of the 6L cars giving the cheaper smaller engined cars more hope of keeping up. Maybe this will encourage more cars to the track with cheaper running costs and closer competition.

Any thoughts anyone?

I can see cutting down the tyre size costing more money, 750hp and 11" twigs wont work well together. The dunlop sports sedan tyres are cheap, in fact they are the same price as the tyres that are going on the 2 litre car...

Not cheap, but not that expensive when you take into account the price of the Yokohama A048's that IP use that are nearly the same price at close to $500.00 per tyre for 17's.....

I wish I had a solution for this to assist the NSW guys - To get more cars onto the grid in QLD, we opened the State Championship regulations up to allow "Invited Cars", so pretty much anyone can run as a Sports Sedan if they choose.

Check out the current auto action, a few very nice 2 litre sports sedans are popping up, maybe that is a cheap alternative.

its is true profi, cams have said if we dont meet the minimum number of cars at EVERY round this year we wont have a championship next year.

the new nsw ss president andrew is doing all he can to drum up interest. so far they think they will get 20 cars at the first state round in march at e.c. its the wakefield rounds they are worried about. there was a race last year where i think 6 cars turned up?

11 inch tyres wouldnt work, we would just chew them up quicker and the cost is barely any different.
you cant run a 2L turbo in the under 3500 class. no way in the world can a na 3500 keep up with a 4 cyl turbo. only way would be to put on boost restrictions but again this is something that would need to be controlled and makes it all too difficult.
if they let 2L turbos in bobby irvin would clean up every time.
Andrew is really pushing people to get interested in the nsw CLUB again. trying to get member input and people to join and come along.
