Sports Sedans at Bathurst

Sorry everyone who was keen, but I receieved notification today that the other category that was offered the spot at Bathurst has taken up that offer, which will leave no room for Sports Sedans this year. It is my intention to negotiate with the organisers for a start in the 2012 event, which I would like to see all the states and the national guys get involved with.

I will keep everyone updated with developments.

So whats wrong with applying the same enthusiasm to entering a Kerrick Sports Sedan round?

Sorry if I sound uneducated but a race is a race (if you are a real racer). Whats the difference in having a race at Bathurst (not televised and more expensive entry fee for less track time) versus having a race with the country's best at, say, Phillip Island, Eastern Creek, Mallala, Morgan Park, Sandown etc?

If 50 or so competitors can manage to get off their butt and race at Bathurst (presumably in a car that has not run for some time and therefore maybe unreliable) why not the same 50 go to a state championship or Nationals series round? I will call it the Bathurst Cup if you want and we can have a pit stop and whatever to pretend.

The answer to this may lay in the expected versus reality when it comes to the crunch to pay the entry fee and only 15 front up with the money.

Why not play the cards we have to the best result. If you don't support the state races then they may not be there when you want to play, same goes for the National series. As for one off events, this has never been a long term solution for a stable category.

If your ego is so large that you have to tell people that you raced at Bathurst (or tried to) then you are not a real racer in my opinion. Going flat out on any track and doing your best gives me the same level of satisfaction regardless of the venue. Hopefully I am not alone in my opinion?

Phil you are 100% correct.
This year we have struggled for consistent grids and yet we can get huge enthusiasm to maybe run at Bathurst.
Maybe a pre-requisite needs to be a "X" number of State or National rounds to prove the vehicles reliability and more so the driver’s maturity as Bathurst will bite anyone's arse if not treated with respect.

The offer to run also highlighted some owner’s vehicle safety.
This is fantastic as it now has us looking seriously as to how safe our jiggers actually may be.

Following doing both State and National Series' this year, we aim to do one new circuit each year.
Bathurst was to be our 2011 new challenge.
Maybe a "holiday" to Perth, Darwin or Tassie may be now on the agenda :p

it now will have been 20, !!TWENTY!! years since a sports sedan could run at bathurst by the time we get there. I may be dead the next time sports sedans get the chance to run at bathurst at that rate! For me it has nothing to do with what i can or cant tell people its the chance to run an unbelievable car at an incredible track. I can run phillip island, ec whenever i want. Id pay double the entry fee if it was going to be a 1 in 20 year thing again.

I strongly agree with torana racer tho, you would have to have run the car within the last 2 years at least to qualify.

All of the above... Yes, it'd be ace to have a run at Bathurst and i'd love to go there if it happens. However, if we can only get 15 cars to a combined state/national round at Sandown, then what's the point? Unless the Bathurst race was made a round of either the NSW or National championships, then I could see it doing way more harm than good for the category. You'd find people spending their yearly budget and brownie points with the missus, to go to Bathurst at the expense of numbers in the races that matter.
Now, seeing as we have a year and a bit to organise it, how about trying to make it a combined State/National round for 2012, Kerrick on board, a big field, and everyone can get a photo of themselves and their car on the starting grid at bathurst prior to crashing them there! :rolleyes:

Then on the other side Baturst may get sports sedans back on the radar. With the possibility of the
front runners smashing the taxi record if they push hard enough. I'm sure if one of the guys go
under 1.06 (edit: 2.06 for you guys who don't believe in the murphs true pace) it will be blasted through auto action and other motorsport media, though some cars
will get bent it may get us back in the spot light.

in the 1991 support race, car no 30, Tony Hudson, i have that car in brisbane, getting a resto and conforming to the original spec for group U Historics.
it has had its tech inspection and has been approved by CAMS officer for group U
