I think a great idea would be to run the sports sedans with the v8s as a aupport category. With the extra coverage and big crouds (meaning more sponsorship and prize dollars) i reckon they would outdo the v8s for entertainment and you would see more consistent and bigger fields. Still only 6 rounds but the usual traditional tracks. What does anybody think...

for starters sports sedans would need a huge series sponsor to cover the costs of entering a v8 round. Entry fee to run in their circus is apparently huge. As is the tv coverage.

Secondly it has always been the belief of alot of sports sedan guys that the v8's dont want them there as yes they do look great, the do attract alot of interest.

but its the same old story, we dont have manufacturer based backing, we dont have a 100 guys with wallets AND!! the ability to build these sorts of cars.
Phil crompton is kind of trying to make this happen with his turn up and buy a car thing, which is great! but it will still never get manufacturing interest as bugger all of the cars have anything to do with what they look like.

maybe trent could have some luck! mazda rotary!

running with the v8's would be cool for the crowd etc but s*** it used to be a hassle. We would get races cut short to meet tv schdules. You get put in the mud pit of a carpark somewhere,

Lets just hope it could happen one day and be great!

Not to mention VESA cant stand anything that could lap quicker or get faster top speeds than their beloved V8SC's. It would be good but you need to guarentee X cars at each round and put up with as MrBoost says being in a mud pit somewhere...

The biggest fields for Sports Sedans were always when they were supporting the main game be it Group A or V8 Supercars. All the cars seemed to come of the garage's for each event in their respective state even if they did not run each round.

This may also have contributed to the V8 Supercar fraternity not liking the SS's on their bill. In a 5 lap race you could have as many as 10 cars be scattered around the circuit for various reasons that would all require collecting. This would delay the entire race program. If a car only comes out of the garage once or twice a year the reliability probably aint going to be there for some entries nor driving ability.

Ideally if we could get Sports Sedan's on one major event for the year. Ie Bathurst (any meeting), Gold Coast or the Clipsall you would have some of these cars coming out of the darkened workshop corners.

However, introduce a rule that if you do want to run at this event, you must run at least 1 or 2 rounds of the National Series.

Mallala has been run and won, the two Mustangs, the Audi A4, the Corvette, the GTV, Kerry's Nissan, Trent's Mazda, they all looked great and sounded even better. Read all about it on the website race report. The meeting was down on numbers but it is expensive to get to Mallala. Watch for the KSSS on SBS Speedweek 1.30pm Sunday 1st June and/or Fox Inside Speed Wednesday 4th June at 8.00pm.
Congratulations to Luke, Kerry and Trent and to Phast Phil for equal points for tied third spot.

The top speed would be a no brainer even though the Super Taxis more then likely carry better corner exit speed because they have more resources to set up the suspension and have professionally tested aero packages.

As for the big events I think it is really a dollar issue to get on the V8 Supercar support bill, the field sizes would have an influence but VESA would turn a blind eye to that if you rock up with a truckload of money (look at the Mini series!)

Sports Sedans ran at the Adelaide GP and at Indy in years gone by, even the race of of a thousand years back at the end of 2000, does anyone know how this came about or was the class just asked to show up?I think the commercial element has come into it now days and to get on these big events you need to bring in the cash.

The class was simply asked to go to race of 1000 years. Still the best track (full GP Adelaide circuit) that I have ever raced on. About 2min:30sec per lap.

I agree with JD Yort, having another 20 cars turn up that spit and fart or fall to pieces with out of practice drivers does nothing for the public image of sports sedans.

What we need is what we have plus a handful more. We already have over 20 entries for both the NSW rounds and the entries for PI have just increased.

The long lay off till start 2008 saw some enthusiasm from last year dissipate. It is already building again.

Still, a big event like Indy or Clipsal etc with TV coverage costs plenty and has in the past damaged the actual series. Me thinks we stick to our knitting and appreciate what the CAMS Shannons Nationals has to offer the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series. Remember our sponsor is a stakeholder in this as well and I respect their input and with them already talking 2009 support we must be doing something correct.

Well Phil I agree, if you do things great small you can always work up to growing bigger!!! Besides being bigger is not always better anyway, look after the people that support you and the series, and their support will grow for you and the series. Congrats once again for your great weekend and to Trent as well.
