V8 Supercars COTF

Postby 2JZSS » Mon Jan 03, 2011 8:27 pm

After my initial post of being sceptical of the supercars stealing the sports sedan theme i have come around to thinking it may not be so bad.

Thanks to the aboves posts i thought i'd switch minds for a minute and think about the good things.

1. As the guys above have said .... cheap transaxles for all!! (win win)

2. Cheap 18s rims or tyres if the size is what your after.

3. The most important is probably the fact that any good driver at the front of the field in sports sedans could in fact go well in a v8 Supercar COTF. As the cars will be fairly similar and if the supercars run a michelin 18' tyre you would have more of a shot at it than a current sports sedan transition to a V8 supercar.

4. Sports Sedans could become a much cheaper breeding ground for younger drivers trying to make the jump into a v8 supercar ride. No category agreement to pay etc.

thankyou commodore 51

i dont want it to sound to the extreme of i want to be wrapped in bubble wrap, but i dont enjoy going through a field when there are lap time gaps
of up to 25 seconds! The closing speeds are just too much. i would much prefer to spend my race dicing with cars my speed. When a sports sedan grid is full i dont think we ever have 'boring viewing' we just need to keep the grid FULL. Though saying this i would love more cars closer to my pace. But who decideds what a sports sedans pace should be? Imagine telling darren or tony hey where going to take 3 seconds of u so we can keep up, pffft. The key is getting the cars out there. Imagine darren, tony, sera, baily(aston), des, baily's 300 with seto in it all out there in the same race. all of a sudden you have 5 possible leaders! that is until geoff gets his bmw going properly and wipes the floor (then we can bring back the turbo restrictor talks ay ;) )

Some good feedback guys.
Yes, maybe blooding a new supercar driver in the sports sedans could happen and I see that as a positive.
One thing will never happen in the National series....standing starts. I do not understand why any race has a standing start, let alone a sports sedan.
The weak link in every well engineered (and some poorly engineered ones) is normally the drivetrain. Why put all that extra stress of a standing start on cars and be the cause of many more DNF's?
Nearly all (probably all) races in the USA are rolling starts as are Le mans races from memory.
I think all the state championships should consider a rolling start also as we do not see a smany of the transaxle/CV/gear/crownwheel and pinion/clutch/axle/driveshaft/uni joints/input shafts breakages like we used to at the Nationals.
So a standing start handicap may be fun at club racing but not appropriate at National at all so no probability of happening.
