Where's the MCM posts?

Postby MrBoost » Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:22 pm

plain and simple phil, weather half the people in sports sedans admit it or not or SAY they dont care, people care and want to show off and want to race infront of a LIVE crowd. Go back over the sports sedan years and look when entries were up and when they were down.
UP
touring car rounds
obrien aluminium series (infront of the truck racing crowd, even when 40k wasnt up for grabs)
all indy's, bathurst's and F1 events
race of a thousand years
do we see a trend? people can bullshit and say they dont care about showing off and are there just for the enjoyment of racing. if that were the case the state series would be FULL in every state as interstaters turned up and the nationals would be dead.
Live crowds pull entries, tv slightly pulls entries. Ill admit myself i dont often invite my mates out to watch a race meeting as they would turn up, see the crowd of 10 and be like yeh this is crap compared to 'the v8's'. Same with sponsors! (I mean mates who dont have a great interest in motor racing) like people on this forum. I used to invite them all the time to the 'shannons event' but it would be like twisting there arm and whats the point in that? tell them to turn up to mcm coz there will be heaps of people and cool OTHER categories to watch and sure enough they will all be there and love it.
Therein lies half the problem, who likes a day where theres 1 good thing to watch twice and the rest of the day is boring categories?
I personally dont want the series to leave the shannons rounds all together, but throwing in some great stuff like this really helps. And gives us a slight chance at a sponsor and some proper interest from people other than our little community.

Its just so obvious. Big events draw big crownds which draws big entires. And i cant believe that we only have 29 with the amount of talk and carry on that has been going on.
too bad your going overseas phil it would have been the perfect spot to showcase your new chassis that others could buy plans for!

Phast Phil, any chance of getting some Kerrick Series stickers to hand out to promote the National Series?

We have some posters of our car to give away to the punters.

Sorry Torana, but Phil made it pretty clear early on that the Kerrick Series wanted nothing to do with the MCM. Even deleted the MCM thread as it was not the "main focus". Meanwhile, NSW is supporting the event well and our series sponsor is right on board and adding extra sponsorship for the main MCM feature race. It will be the Air Technology Australia Sports Sedans race. So leave the Kerrick stickers at home this time, but maybe Phil would like to talk to Kerrick about including the MCM as a round of the series next year - maybe the joint NSW/National round. That will take a bit of negotiation with Kerrick as there is no TV for the event (other than a highlights package covering all categories), but maybe they would like to be part of it. If so I can commence planting the seed with the organisers next week and build on what we have already achieved.

Anyway, here's the entry list that was sent to me tonight:

Chris Jackson Holden Calibra
Steve Coulter Oztruck Chevrolet
Joseph Said Fiat 124 Coupe
Simon Copping Holden Commodore
Stuart Inwood Ford AU
Graham Smith Opel Calibra
Scott Reed Ford Chevrolet
Damian Johnson Holden Torana
Glenn Pro Ford Escort RS2000
Geoffory Whittaker Holden VL Commodore
Norm Stokes Mazda RX7
Kerry Baily Nissan 300ZX
Michael Auld Holden VS Commodore
Grant Doulman Holden Commodore
Dameon Jameson Jaguar XKR
David McGinniss Holden Calibra
Bobby Ervin Mazda RX7
Kieren Pilkington Holden VS Commodore
Scott Butler Chev Camaro
Steven Shiels Chev Camaro
Bill Harris Holden VP Commodore
Nick Smith Fiat 131
TBA Oztruck Chevrolet
Fred Axisa Holden VZ Comodore
Daniel Tamasi Holden Calibra
Herbert Gattermeier BMW 2002
Mark Bowen Holden VK Commodore
Ron Moller Chevrolet Camaro

Troy, I don't think it will be British somehow. Would be a nice event for its debut though...

And yes, the organisers are still willing to take late entries.

I should have mentioned that Air Technology Australia sponsorship imposes no conditions on competitors for the MCM - we don't need to carry stickers or banners if we don't want to (although NSW cars already have them). So there is no need to cover or remove the Kerrick banners if they are already on your car.

Rod from Air Technology Australia will be around for the weekend with some clients and business associates, so please at least make them feel welcome, show them your car and have a chat. I know they'll appreciate it.

I ventured out there today and it was a fantastic display by the Sports Sedans. It reminded me of the last round at Oran Park with so many cars at Eastern Creek. The overtaking manouvre of the day had to be the Blindman in Race 2 going around I think 3 cars in total on the outside of turn 1, all for position. The crowd gasped as he did it. If there is incar footage, please upload Scott.

The Tamasi Calibra is ridiculously fast. The speed difference down the front straight looked to be 20k on anyone else. Bad race day for the Smiths in R1, hope you fix your problems tonight and get out there tomorrow. A very decent crowd, biggest Saturday crowd I have seen, maybe the secret is out that if you like racing and not watching parade laps, then go a day earlier.

They definitely caused a buzz with the crowd when they came out to play, hope this becomes a permanent fixture. Will upload some pics in the Picture thread.

It was a good setup with all the Sports Sedans over there on the skid pan. What happened to Joseph Said and I thought we were going to see the 2002 Turbo return to the race track???
(The Edmondson Alfa was not cited on the Saturday but may be there today).

Awesome's the word , what a great event , I Have NEVER driven in front of so many people , coming down the straight on the warm up to see a packed grandstand, thousands of people sitting in the sun on the hills enjoying one of the nicest days of the year & watching the fastest cars of the event was just fantastic.

The fig 8 pit area worked perfect to showcase the catagory all setup in one area , & the contstant procession of thousands of spectators doing a lap of the sports sedan pits , taking photos , & the constant remarks & interest about how great the cars were ,will do us a huge amount of good

Gotta say what a great job Toymax & family did to not only organise everything but to spend the entire 4 days making sure everything ran smoothly & the whole event was a huge success. Thanks Guys .
Congrats to Damien as the first winner of the Air Technology Australia , Tony Edmonson trophy race , great job & well deserved .

Cant wait for next years event , & to think we still have Bathurst to come Next Feb . Sports Sedans really are the place to be .
