State Based Forum Threads

Postby toranaracer » Wed Sep 14, 2011 7:31 pm

I have been having a look around all the various State Sports Sedan web sites to see what forum sections there are.

What I found so far is;

Queensland - http://qldgeminis.proboards.com/index.cgi?
Victoria - http://www.sportssedan.com.au/index.php?option=com_agora&Itemid
U2L Victoria - http://www.2litress.com/phpBB3/
New South Wales - No forum?

The Qld forum does not have a Sports Sedan section, the Victorian forum has not been used since the National one was down, the U2L is quite active and NSW does not even have a forum.

With all these State based forums available, why do we seem to be airing our dirty laundry for non National Series threads on here?

Yes I am guilty of starting and contributing to off topic threads on here, however when I post something on ASSA Vic it barely goes noticed, http://www.sportssedan.com.au/index.php?option=com_agora&task=viewtopic&id=80

So maybe we need to look into the possibility of a seperate section within this forum for "Non Championship" topics?

Your thoughts?

Agreed Toranaracer, maybe the national site could provide a link to the forums to promote the state level and then this may promote more of the state guys into running the national rounds.

And yes we all bitch and moan about things, but people like myself that wish we had the money to do what you and the other guys are doing each round, and being in Tassie, we dont get a real opportunity to see you guys run, I am glad that the the guys that are coming over this weekend to run at Baskerville, have made the effort and I want to say thank you!!! And good luck!!

But I can see that this series is going to get stronger!!
Better!!
And full grids, but it mite take another couple of years, but with itvlive showing the races live is another way state guys and say to sponsors, look u can log and get it live and tell everyone to log on and view, then it will be on Speedweek the following weekend!!

My 2 cents worth!!

Thanks

I raised this over 2 years agoToranaRacer . If you look at any of the big motoring forums, they have all have hierarchical tier structure. Eg Skylines Australia Forum which is one of the biggest in the country in terms of members.

Pro's
- Significant cost saving to be had by getting VIC, NSW, QLD, 2ltr and National Sports Sedans with the one Webhosting
- More open dialogue between the different organisations
- More members, more hits, more opportunities for advertising $$$ with banner ads etc.
- A unified one stop shop for all things Sports Sedans for rules etc.
- Getting rid of this outdated Forum software and the Spambots etc that live on here
- Add in the rules sections that is often raised + historical section.

Cons
- None really other than getting people to agree on an the opening page format

I really can't see why this is not investigated. The cost saving alone should be enough or am I the only one that understands e-commerce?

Hey snowman, I saw the guys off on the boat tonight. They're all keen as mustard to get down there and have a crack.
Apparently I've been voted in as a commentator. (I should make sure I attend all the meetings). So make sure you come and say Hi.
(I'll be the only person in Tassie wearing shorts...)

State Based Forum Threads

NSW doesn't have a big enough membership base to support a State only forum. Maybe that's why the other ones don't seem too well used?

From my perspective, I think it would be better for all to use the one forum (sort of like we are on this one). We are all heading in the same direction after all. And for those new to or exploring the Sports Sedan category via the internet, wouldn't it be better for it all to appear in one forum?

It can be organised so that the one forum has distinct category areas - maybe that's where Nationals and each State can be separated. Have a look at this forum:

Soarer Central Forum

It is quite well set up with different categories for discussion (there's a track car area with some interesting threads) and the forum moderators are very strict with keeping out language, abuse and the other "bad things" that appear in a lot of other forums. The whole forum works very well for its members and guests who want to check things out.

Maybe that's the line we should follow.

That's my input torana man.

This is a good idea as JD mentioned before!!

The only thing that will stop it will be the Series Sponsors, but maybe they can be persuaded to consider this.

Any thoughts or comments from Phil or CD on this would be good.

This would grow the catagory from strength to strength, as this could be used to confirm calenders, rounds, rounds and all other announcements.

This would seem to make more sense in regards to that fact, and that everyone would be coming to to one forum.
I dont know if everyone (including State based classes) would wont to have the websites shared with the National Site.

If you dont want to have the other states on here how about having threads that are state based so at least we can see/talk about state based events, as well as National events, after all the more drivers that come here, the more opportunity there is for them to run with the National rounds at least when you come to there state.

I will prob think of some more but thats another 2 cents worth.

Thanks

Dasnowman

PS this is not an attattack on what is the best class in Aust or the guys that run this website or the championship, I just remember when this was the class where drivers wanted to driver these cars and they travelled everywhere around this country and it provided some great racing.

Great ideas guys, real positive stuff!

I like the idea, ultimately the pro's and con's to this need to be discussed. I'm only one voice, but I'll contact the NASSA Delegates in each State and we'll sort something out. I understand Phil Crompton is still in the US at present, so we will need to run the idea past him also.

I also believe we should be looking at promoting the Historic Sports Sedan movement with their own section of the forum because we have some great cars out there that are a part of our heritage and should be recognised. There have been some beautiful restorations of the Historic cars back to their former glory!

I am also a believer in better utilising our Facebook page, there is a Sports Sedans Australia page that had been set up but not updated regularly enough, there are other Sports Sedan pages you can "like" as well.

I believe the Improved Production category run a pretty good forum, we can certainly use theirs as an example. I do believe they need to better manage their forum in the Technical Areas because often their threads degenerate into arguments that go around in circles and go nowhere...... ie. Late Model v Early Model, Restrictors on Turbo Cars, Weights, Wheel sizes etc.....

Cheers,
CD.
