are you telling me you slept in a tent at the track and no accomodation costs?

Yes. Andrea and I have slept on the side of the road travelling interstate in the Chev.
We have endured the "aroma" at Eastern Creek when sleeping at the gate on a cold Saturday morning.
We typically only have a single nights accomodation at each meeting, and book well in advance to get cheaper rates.
We have already booked accomodation for all rounds in 2012 just in case we can put a package together to race.

are you telling me you never ate at a restuarant and cooked all your own meals?

We cater for ourselves (and Phast Phil!!) at the track, and usually only have a pub meal on Saturday night.
Our crew even pay their own way!

are you saying shannons entries are the same as a state entry?

Yes when you factor in the TV and track time over a weekend.

are you saying you never did friday practice and took off extra days at work to travel back and forth?

Yes we only try to do Friday at a new track or when we need to run in an engine.

and honestly if your running a national round on an old set of tyres

Yes we do most of the time. We budget for two sets for the full National Series.
We top our tyre bank up with good "hand me downs" which we are grateful for.
We certainly would not use tyres that we were doubtful of their performance and integrity.

i want to race with who i should be racing with!

Yes and so do I, but there always seems to be excuses as to why so many cars sit idle in sheds.

if there was more support to your clas it would happen to you.

Yes again, look at the speed of the Centreline RX7 at Winton. That is what U3500NA should be.

Andrea and I are only on modest wages with a mortgage and do this because we love the comraderie, friendship and to support our category and our loyal Kerrick sponsor.

The point I was trying to make is that if you seriously look at where money is spent, you will be suprised where you can find that little bit extra to get the car out of the shed and onto the track.

if this is the case i commend you, but i doubt you enjoyed your motorsport 'weekend' too much

and honestly if your running a national round on an old set of tyres getting hosed by your fellow competitors who have bought new tyres whats the point? i want to race with who i should be racing with!
i know this didnt happen to you torana racer but it would happen to me and if there was more support to your clas it would happen to you.

Toranaracer - your commitment to the Kerrick Series and sports sedans needs to be bottled. If there were 10 others like yourself we would not be having this discussion. I sincerely hope to hear the wail off the "Folden" again next year.

Boost - Are you saying you drive home from Wakefield each night or just don't go? Does everyone in NSW replace their tyres at the same time to ensure equallity? Happy to race the same guys on the same track over and over again? Don't socialize with fellow competitors? Can't race without sleeping in your own bed? Do you use worn out brake pads until a national round comes along to justify the cost?

People constantly trotting out this "cost difference" argument are really flogging a dead horse in my opinion.
Phillip Island, Morgan Park, Wakefield and Winton all require accomadation for the majority of competitors.
New tyres and friday practice - totally optional.
If you are keen to test yourself and your car on different tracks and against different competitors you will find a way.

Boost - You made a statement on this forum a while ago, I assume as a joke "I won't travel that far only to break down on Friday and have to come home" (or words to the affect). Unfortunately mate a lot of people remember that and it cost you a lot of credability.

Now, wasn't this thread about the 2012 series? Let get back on track people.

Famous,
If you check the 2012 calendar you will see a round is scheduled for QR in August 10-12.

If you place your order now I will ensure your new Mustang will be ready to go by then. Just need $25,000 deposit and we will start work.

Alternatively you may purchase the car that will be off the production line and ready to go in January as a roller or with everything...your choice.

Lakeside is not a CAMS Licenced track to the best of my knowledge so until then we will never see the SS Nationals there. This is particularly sad for Roverboy who van walk the 200 metres to the front gate and yes could sleep in his own bed and hit up Mum & Dad for a BBQ meal at home.

No, unless you were at any of the Nationals then you would not have seen me because that is where I go for some strange reason.

And no I will not call you because I do not know who you are or what number to call. If you want to purchase a 2012 Nationals series entry feel free to call me on 0411740092.

roverboy - yes it was totally a joke. we ran at the natioanls for many many years and did exactly that quite a few times unfortunately.
Anyone who ran with us all those years would have got the joke. hell we won 2 kerrick awards for hard luck and trying hard!
and by the way kerrick the gear is still going strong!
Last year the rear half of my car burnt right out in a big fuel fire in race 1 on saturday, we took it home, made new tanks, new wiring, new fuel and oil lines,
patchworked fibreglass together etc etc and had the thing on the track for race 1 the next day without a wink of sleep. I have done this kind of thing many
times with dad over the years to get his car on the track when things go wrong. I certainly arent the type to get disheartened when alot of effort goes no
where, and you have to drive a million miles home. Done it more times than i can count on my hands and feet.

Torana racer/ rover boy
if i had enough money to do the national rounds i would be at every one, You obviously have the money. yes you do it as tight as we always did when we ran at
the nationals for 10 odd years in a row. Yes when we go to wakefield we have 1 nights accom and 1 pub meal to buy and $60 extra in fuel to get there and back.
(it is only 1 and a half hours away). But nsw schedules max 2 rounds there a year coz it does cost extra and we USUALLY get lower grid numbers there coz of this.

Do i need to run through the cost on here of a budget nationals year versus a state year? Do your wives read this forum and your trying to hide how much you
spend to do the national series?

- yes when we did the natioanls we typically spent one night accom away, drive through friday night and turn up at the track 6-7 am and do saturday.
Sleep in hotel sat night and race sunday, pack up sunday and drive home and be at work monday. you do what you have to do to run.
OUr crew members also paid there way in terms of food and fuel to get there in a separate car if need be
You can only justify tv in an entry fee if you can afford it,. You cant argue this doesnt cost extra money, coz it does and it certainly goes a long way
in stopping people (like me) in affording it. I wouldnt want it to change either. I think the nationals should ahve tv and hence the bigger price. and as
i always say as soon as i can afford it - ill be there.

you guys must seriously have crap state rounds, coz no i dont REALLY get bored of the same competitors as we have so many to race against. You race against the same people
most of the time too. Yes i will agree that the same 3 (now 2 but almost back to 3-4) tracks do get a little inadequte at times and i would really enjoy going to other places.
We certainly have a great bunch of people and do socialize at times be it at the track for a bbq or beers.

I totally get your point torana racer but i think im being a little more realistic than you when i talk about what SOMNE people can affor and why they arent at your national rounds.

This convo should be moved to another thread, We shopuld be talkin about how to make 2012 an awesome year and what way phil wants to head
not about y uiseless people like me cant afford a nats year versus a state year.

And also just putting it out there, internet convo's alot of the time get taken the very wrong way. When you speak to someones face to face alot of the little
arguments or perceptions wof people would be very different. if someone has said something to 'lose there credibility' with someone else
pull them up straight away about it and try to understand what they are really saying rather than dropping your opinion on them from the way
they read stuff. Im sure theres alot of people on here that have said stuff which has made you think they are a dick arent being a dick at all.
You wouldbt believe the amount of people who think phil is a dick when they have never met him other than a forum name, Alot of people are quite surprised
when i say nah hes actually a really great guy. There even more surprised when they find out im Mr Boost with soem of the argumentsd we have
had on here.

Just a newbie question; what is the cost of entry for a 'standard' nationals round like EC, Wakefield or Winton?

I too will be on second hand tyres all year! For both the state and nationals rounds i do!

Ok 2 years later ... the car is actually in a workshop , looks like it will be finished before i'm 50 .. because of my thought process ( or lack thereof ) and the fact that my car will never be considered a historic ss . i will do this last year AASA meeting in qld . I'll never run with the big guns in this series , i just dont have the budget . what i do have is a sports sedan and delusions of grandure ( for my kids to continue racing ) I would dearly love to do the national series , we bought the tow car ( Pajero ) a trailer is on the way . next plan is having a Cams licence , and the car cams approved . but at least im making progress .. to those of you who i know on this forum .. i thank you for the encoragement over the years . and answering all my stupid questions .
