Old Mk2 Escort Sports Sedan i bought anyone have any Information?

Postby mattj » Mon Jul 23, 2012 11:48 am

Hi all

Ive been looking around for a place that like minded people may be able to help me out and stumbled across this forum!

I recently won this MK2 escort off ebay and picked it up from southern Victoria over the weekend. It has old CAMS race meeting stickers on it from 1991-1993 but no log book numbers or log book sadly came with the car. It supposedly ran a 350 chev at one point (i found a dizzy cap for a v8 in the car so may be true). and also runs a unique full commodore? suspension setup in it.

It has sponsorship from Artel Engineering on the sides and number 77 on the doors. Im just interested if there is any information out there on the car and any old pictures of it in action? plans are to rebuild it, but im uncertain of what drivetrain to put in

Cheers
Matty

It does indeed look like a nice car, will clean up nicely! Good luck with it.

Can CAMS re-issue a logbook for a car if all the numbers are correct but the actual logbook itself is missing? Would be great if you could get it's history and run it as it was. Maybe CAMS will have the ownership history still available?

cheers guys, im in Southern NSW In Nowra,

My old man runs a LJ Group C sports sedan running a ELXR6 motor. The Torana was owned John Burrows and its sister car was owned by Alan Burrows.. the paint scheme might look familiar
Dads car

Sister car

This escort was sadly missing the logbook, the fella i bought it off did not get it when he bought it. The only numbers i have are the chassis numbers as there is no motor anymore in it. Would that be enough to get a CAMS re-issue of a logbook? I emailed the log book info guys at cams yesterday to see if they have any history on the car. Ive also tried to contact the sponsors of the car but the engineering company has vanuished..

Heres a few more shots of the car as ive cleaned it a little and put it in the shed with my escort rally car.

Plans are to put the 202 and gearbox from my dads torana in it as they are free and sitting around. Also the 15 x 10 rims were also sitting around and look the goods on the escort. lots to do but should be fun when its finished i hope!

Cheers

Hey Matt,

I had a look for you but these two are the closest I can find and dont think it is either. The rear wing on your car is quite distinct.

The best way to find out more about the car is to get a historical ASIC report. As that engineering company way a Pty Ltd business it of course was registered. If you see the below link you can see that for $27.90 you can get a fair whack of information on them. With most club racers 9/10 it is their own business or a friends. I think you can also do it yourself through ASIC if you jump on their web site and do soome digging around.

Thanks for that mate, yeah ive been doing a bot of research and the engineering firm went bust a while abck and the other sponsor rememebred the car but said when the company went bust it was sold off quick smart and thats all the info he had on it..

spoke to cams and they are happy to re-issue the logbook with a stack dec and new pictures of the car once i rebuild it. so one hurdle done. Would just love to know more about it. Ive spent a few hours looking through old photos hopeing to see it pop up in a shot but no luck.

Is there anywhere old race results are held?

Nowra racetrack wise yeah they have had media conferences and lots of stuff in the paper about it, rumour is its all paid for with no government help and also heard work might start next year which would be great! as i only live 15mins from where its planning to be built
