Capris In Sports Sedans

Postby G.Thorpe » Sun Dec 21, 2008 5:40 pm

G'day. My Name is Glenn and I'm writing a book about Ford Capris in Austraila.
I would like to add a chapter about Capri Sports Sedans after talking to a gentleman who contacted me about his sport sedan Capri which he campaigned in the 70's. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name or contact details.

Anyway, I'd like to get in touch with anyone who has any info about any Capris that have been raced over the years. You may have raced one, or know of one tucked away in a barn somewhere or may be building one as we speak.

You can reply here or email me at maxrnb70@hotmail.com

Cheers Glenn

Pretty sure that there would have been a few. Moffatt had on, there is one in tassie, a guy named Scotty Taylor had it first down here, then sold to Stephen Bell who I think still has the car. Not sure who owned it first before hand tho!! I think there might be one running in the national series???? Hope you can get all the info to help you with the book. Good luck Glenn.

Ian Rice in Victoria had one a few years back, had a few reliability problems but none the less. There are pictures of one from NSW going around somewhere not sure who it is?

I had many an awesome dice with Brett Curran at Lakeside - the car had a 350 Chev in it in that photo. I think he knocked out some 55's around Lakeside and 1.14's at Queensland Raceway which is pretty quick :) Brett's a good bloke too, a Toowoomba panel beater. I'm not sure where this car ended up actually, but it was very neat and well developed in the end.

The Purple No. 13 car listed above is owned by a guy by the name of Glenn White (big scary looking Pommy bloke HAHA, ex-Banger Racer) who ran it once this year in a QLD State Round at Morgan Park in April. The car has plenty of potential and was pretty quick straight out of the box.

I wondered where the Senese/Hayes carr ended up, thanks for the missing piece of the puzzle there Ricey.

Cheers,
CD.

Craig Wildrige used to run Capri in NSW in the mid to late 1990s, I think it had a Chev V8 (not a Ford) in it?? Not 100% sure but i think he sold the car as a roller and put some of the running gear into the EL Falcon he built up. Over the years he developed the Capri into a pretty quick machine, got some good results at the O'Brien Aluminium series at Oran Park in the late 1990s.

There was also a yellow Capri with a Hewland transaxle that was for sale in Auto Action within the last year or so. Built by a bloke called Mick (can't remember his last name, he runs a workshop in western Sydney) however I don't think the car saw much action on the track.

- Allan Nolan ran a V8 powered Capri in NSW for a while too, don't know what happened to that car, might have been put up for sale.
- Stuart Hungerford ran a Capri that was fitted with a rotary engine in the early 1990s.
- Norm Stokes also ran a rotary powered Capri back in the early 1990s before he moved up to his RX7.
- Darryl Knuckley ran a V8 capri in NSW earlier this decade but later updated to a later model shape Falcon (EL, EF?).

Also didn't Phast Phil race a Capri at one stage many years ago????
