New cars/ drivers for this year and beyond

Postby jd yort » Sun Nov 11, 2007 1:36 pm

The new cars this year included the XJS Jag of Mike Roddy and the new John Gourlay Audi driven by Darren Hossack. Also Geoff Munday will debut in the national series his new Chev Camaro sport sedan at the final round at Sandown in December.
A keen South Aussie fellow has just purchased a series 4 RX7 with Ford Cosworth RS 500 turbo power (590hp) with transaxle gearbox that was originally built by Dick Ward in WA. This car has front running capability and we will welcome him to the series in 2008.
Yes KB has started the building of an Aston Martin (GT1 type) that will have the best of everything. He intends to retain the 300ZX and run a second driver.
Seeing the end of 2007 to start 2008 is 5 months Phil Crompton is to build a better and lighter chassis for the Mustang to bring it nearer to minimum weight and improve where needed. He may cut loose and fit the later shape body.
The Ricciardellos would love to go later model than the Alfetta and are leaning towards the other red Italian brand.
The Smiths from Brisbane are building another engine with about 150hp extra so that should help the Rover jump up the grid as it rides the corners quite well.
Rumor has it that Bernie Gillon (NZ North Island) will return with the ex Fawcett Trans am Jaguar. Glen Brazier from NZ south Island has stated he will race his Corvette in the entire 2008 Aussie series.
Other than this nothing much is happening!!!!
Anyone want to buy shares in the new Sports Sedan company while they are still cheap?

It is good to have some latest information posted FastPhil. Sports sedan news is hard to come by.

someone should buy the glen taylor commodore aswell its a top 10 car and is quietly for sale.

same with barry morcoms ford that car is a front runner and sits in the shed with an inch of dust waiting for a buyer. neither are advertised but if your interested get in contact with them!

I think you will find the mechanicals of the old Glen Taylor VN Commodore (which used Bob Tindalls old Torana space frame chassis) are what is in the Scott Butler driven Steve Vigurs owned Chev Camaro that just won the NSW State Sport Sedan Championship.
From what I've heard Steve Vigurs has built another chassis for a competitor from Bathurst which will use the body work of the ex Taylor VN Commodore.

Another car to look out for is Joe Said's totally rebuilt space frame Fiat 124 with 20B rotary power. While not an outright contender it will be a quick machine and should mix it up mid pack, the level of preperation on it is A1. Hopefully he runs with the National boys when they come to NSW.

The Glen Taylor commodore was the ex Ian Luff white VN if im not mistaken. Joe Said must have built a new car from the ground up as im sure the Fiat he used to run is now green and owned by Tony Long who drives it in the NSWRRC..

(The 2008 Kerrick series for Sports Sedans is gathering pace already. New drivers, new cars, plus some resurrected cars and drivers, will be doing their best to take that number one door patch away from Tony.)

We know about majority of new cars and drivers, but who are the resurrected cars and drivers that there speaking of. hmmm interesting

Yes it is the ex Reithmuller car.
Has a 580hp turbo cosworth engine (as used in RS500 Sierra touring cars).
Should be Ok for outright speed, similar to the Ervin car in power to weight I suspect and Bobby Ervin is right on the pace.
I followed Bobby up the long back stright at Sandown in the Mustang (about 680hp) and gained about 2 inchs on him.
Lets hope the new Mazda owner does the whole series.
